Message from the CEO

Welcome to GovTech 2009, the State Information Technology Agency's fourth annual conference and South Africa's pre-eminent public sector ICT engagement of the year.

The theme of this year's conference, "Doing ICT for the citizens", will be explored by leading and dynamic speakers who will share their expertise, in-depth knowledge and their experiences - in the form of case-studies and high-level presentations, with lessons learnt on how to make citizen-centric government a reality in South Africa.

This year's programme has been designed to have a wide variety of experts from diverse backgrounds, from the private sector and government both locally and internationally, who will share their experiences in what is required to achieve measurable service delivery outcomes - with value for citizens. We look forward to your esteemed contributions in this regard.

GovTech 2009 will also take stock of commitments previously made and provide some insights on the success and progress that has made in the key ICT initiatives in the public sector. The snapshot of international experiences, valuable lessons learnt and conditions at a local and provincial level, should make for enlightening discussion and debates in finding solutions to address the challenges faced by government.

GovTech compliments SITA's other initiatives and programmes and is one the organisation's contributions to promote knowledge and information sharing, whilst fostering dialogue, debate and discussion among various ICT role players.

I wish to thank all delegates for their continued support, which makes GovTech the outstanding conference it is. Together we can succeed in "Doing ICT for the citizens".

Kind regards

Moses Mtimunye
